The Story Behind Le Médecine Lab

Did you know Le Médecine Lab began in a small dorm room kitchen?

What started as a curiosity about wellness, lifestyle, and the connection between nature and health eventually evolved into a brand rooted in education, community, and thoughtful formulation. We sat down with founder Brea Conrad to discuss the journey behind Le Médecine Lab and the experiences that shaped its vision.

Journalist: Tell us a little about yourself.

Brea: My name is Brea Conrad, and I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology and am currently pursuing my Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

Growing up, health often felt like something that simply happened to people. If someone developed a disease or experienced a health condition, it felt inevitable. As I got older and continued my education, I began to realize that our daily choices have a profound influence on our overall well-being.

That realization changed the way I viewed health and ultimately changed the direction of my life.

Journalist: When did your interest in wellness begin?

Brea: During my time at Spelman College.

I was studying biology and taking courses that explored nutrition and health. Those classes introduced me to the relationship between lifestyle habits and health outcomes in a way I had never considered before.

At the time, I was experiencing persistent acne, changes in my weight, and an unhealthy hair care routine. I began noticing the impact that my habits, the products I was using, and the foods I was consuming were having on my overall well-being.

For the first time, I started paying closer attention to the choices I was making every day. I became more intentional about my diet, movement, routines, and self-care practices. The more I learned, the more curious I became about wellness and preventative health.

I began exploring natural ingredients, reading labels, and asking questions about what I was putting on and into my body. That curiosity sparked a journey that would eventually become much larger than I ever imagined.

Journalist: Is that what led you to creating products?

Brea: Absolutely.

At first, it wasn't about starting a business.

I was simply creating products for myself.

I remember making flaxseed gel for my hair in my dorm room kitchen and experimenting with botanical ingredients because I wanted healthier options that aligned with the lifestyle I was building. Every night I would twist my hair using products I had made myself.

What started as personal experimentation quickly became a passion. I enjoyed learning about ingredients, formulation, and traditional plant uses. I was fascinated by how much knowledge existed within nature and how often those traditions were passed down through communities and families.

Looking back, those small moments in my dorm room were the beginning of everything.

Journalist: Were there experiences that influenced your perspective on wellness?

Brea: Definitely.

As I continued learning, I was fortunate to be surrounded by people and communities that expanded my perspective on health and wellness.

One of the most influential mentors I encountered was Zachary Ramsey III, founder of Detox International in New Orleans.

Through his wellness space, herbal products, vegan café, and community programming, I witnessed people gathering around a shared goal of improving their quality of life.

I regularly attended Kemetic yoga classes, wellness events, and spent time in spaces where health was viewed as something to actively cultivate rather than something to react to.

Those experiences reinforced something I still believe today: wellness is about more than products. It's about education, environment, community, and the choices we make every day.

Journalist: How did Le Médecine Lab officially begin?

Brea: In 2021, I decided to participate in my first market.

I laugh about it now, but I didn't have a polished brand. I didn't have business cards. I didn't have professional packaging. I didn't have all the things people often think they need before they start.

I just brought the products I had created and shared them with my community.

Friends helped spread the word. People showed up and supported me in ways I'll never forget.

That experience taught me that meaningful businesses are often built through community.

Le Médecine Lab may have started with me, but it grew because people believed in the vision.

Journalist: Why the name Le Médecine Lab?

Brea: The name reflects the intersection of everything that inspires me.

"Le Médecine" speaks to healing, wellness, and the rich traditions of plant knowledge that have been passed down through generations. "Lab" reflects curiosity, experimentation, learning, and formulation.

My background in biology and pharmacy has taught me to appreciate research, formulation, and evidence-based thinking, while my personal wellness journey introduced me to the importance of nutrition, herbal traditions, and plant-based wellness.

To me, Le Médecine Lab represents a space where those worlds can coexist.

While many people know us through our skincare products, my vision for Le Médecine Lab extends far beyond skincare. I envision creating botanical formulations, herbal wellness products, educational resources, and experiences that encourage people to become more intentional about their health and well-being.

At its core, Le Médecine Lab is about exploration, education, and reconnecting with the wisdom found in both science and nature.

The name serves as a reminder that wellness is both an art and a science, and that we're always learning more about ourselves along the way.

Journalist: How has pharmacy influenced the brand?

Brea: Pharmacy has strengthened my appreciation for science, formulation, and evidence-based thinking.

Every day I study pharmacology, physiology, and the ways different therapies interact with the body. That education has reinforced the importance of quality, intentional formulation, and understanding the purpose behind every ingredient.

At the same time, my experiences outside of pharmacy introduced me to the importance of nutrition, lifestyle, and preventative wellness.

I've never viewed science and nature as opposites.

I've always viewed them as complementary.

That intersection is where Le Médecine Lab lives.

Journalist: What does Le Médecine Lab represent today?

Brea: Le Médecine Lab represents curiosity, education, and thoughtful living.

It represents asking questions, continuing to learn, and becoming more aware of the choices we make every day.

More than anything, it represents the belief that wellness is a lifelong practice.

Not perfection.

Not quick fixes.

Just a commitment to learning, growing, and making choices that support your well-being over time.

Journalist: Where do you hope Le Médecine Lab will be in the future?

Brea: I hope Le Médecine Lab becomes more than a skincare company.

I envision it becoming a wellness ecosystem centered around education, community, and experiences that encourage people to take an active role in their health and well-being.

Whether through products, botanical formulations, herbal wellness offerings, events, educational resources, or community initiatives, my goal is to create something that inspires people to live healthier, more intentional lives.

If someone discovers Le Médecine Lab and feels inspired to care for themselves differently, then we've accomplished something meaningful.

Journalist: Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Brea: Start where you are.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin.

Recognize your capabilities, celebrate your strengths, acknowledge your potential, and make space for your own growth.

Some roads are harder to pave than others, but with vision, determination, and consistency, every step forward brings you closer to where you're meant to be.

Trust the process.

Allow yourself to grow into the person capable of carrying your vision forward.
